The film premiered at the 52nd International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR) on January 28, 2023, and was later showcased at the 14th Bengaluru International Film Festival in the same year. It has gained significant recognition, being selected as one of the five contenders for the Young Jury Prize at the 68th Cork International Film Festival in Ireland.

"Family" continued to receive acclaim, earning a spot as one of the two Malayalam entries in the International Competition section at the 28th International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) in December 2023.

Family Synopsis

Sony, a Catholic man in his late twenties from rural central Kerala, initially presents himself as a kind and caring person. However, beneath this exterior lies a very different character. Although some family members become aware of his actions, they are silenced by a system that protects men, their wrongdoings, and hidden secrets. As a result, the family becomes a stronghold, concealing the skeletons of its past from the outside world. The film explores how the family dynamic mirrors that of a mafia organization when dealing with internal misdeeds.

Directed, co-written, and edited by Don Palathara, the film was produced by Sanita Chittilappilly and Anto Chittilappilly under Newton Cinema. The screenplay was a collaboration between Sherin Catherine and Don Palathara. Basil C. J. composed the music, while Jaleel Badusha took charge of cinematography.
