Sonu Sood & Sister Malvika Sood Lead From The Front, Rebuilding Lives After Punjab Floods

Actor and philanthropist Sonu Sood is helping families hit by the recent Punjab floods rebuild permanent homes, not just survive the crisis. More than 100 new houses are already standing, with many more under construction, as the team works to restore safety and stability for people who lost everything in the deluge.

This effort is not a short-term campaign. Sonu Sood and sister Malvika Sood have spent months tracking the most affected households, focusing on those whose homes were washed away and who still lacked basic shelter. The work aims to return dignity, security and a sense of belonging to displaced families across flood-hit parts of Punjab.

Explaining the scale of damage, Sonu Sood said, "We saw that the floods in Punjab caused a lot of trouble to the people. We all went on the ground and saw. So, in all these months, we monitored those families, those houses, whose houses were destroyed and flooded during these floods and those families did not have a roof."

Describing how the housing plan was shaped, Sonu Sood added, "Sucharity Foundation and EKL CSR Foundation together talked to those families, went to their houses, understood their problems and made a promise that no matter how many houses there are, 200, 250, 300, no matter how many houses there are, we will make sure that every person has a roof over their head. My sister, Malvika Sood, lives in Punjab. They personally went and talked to those families and decided to solve the problems of those families."

On-ground monitoring by Sonu Sood team in Punjab floods belt

Before construction began, Sonu Sood and the team visited several flooded villages in person and stayed in touch for months. They identified families whose structures had collapsed or were beyond repair. Rather than distributing short-term aid alone, they designed a plan centred on building durable homes, so people would not return to unsafe or makeshift shelters.

Sharing an update on progress, Sonu Sood said, "Today, more than 100 houses have been built and many more are yet to be built. But I promise you that in these floods, we will bring back the roofs of the families whose roofs have been destroyed."

Community responsibility and commitment from Sonu Sood in Punjab floods response

Highlighting the emotional bond with the state, Malvika Sood said, "Punjab is home, and standing by its people in their toughest time is not a choice, but a responsibility. We are committed to seeing this through until every family has a safe roof over their head."

The promise made on the ground is steadily turning into finished walls and secure roofs for many households. With more construction in the pipeline, Sonu Sood and Malvika Sood continue to focus on each listed family, aiming to ensure no identified survivor of the Punjab floods remains without a proper home once the project is complete.
