Since its announcement, cricket fans have been eagerly awaiting the IPL 2026, and their wait is finally coming to an end today (March 28).

IPL 2026 Day 1 Premiere Time Today No Opening Ceremony

Since the beginning, the Indian Premier League has been known as a mixture of cricket and entertainment. Every year, the IPL tournament makes headlines for its grand opening ceremony featuring performances by many well-known celebrities. However, this year, there will be no such ceremony.

Are you wondering why IPL 2026 will start without an opening ceremony, and which teams will lock horns on Day 1? Well, we've fetched all the required information for you here.

WHY IPL 2026 IS GOING TO START WITHOUT AN OPENING CEREMONY? REASON REVEALED

After a long wait of 18-years, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally won the tournament last year, leaving fans elated. However, the happiness soon turned into shock due to the stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, in which a total of 11 people lost their lives during the celebration.

Hence, this year, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to cancel this year's opening ceremony as a heartfelt tribute to the cricket fans who died in the stampede in 2025, as the first match is going to be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Revealing the same, BBCI secretary Devajit Saikia recently told TOI, "Due to last year's tragic incident on June 4, there will be no formal function on the day of the start of IPL-2026 (in Bengaluru). The BCCI is not organising any cultural or entertainment show at the start of IPL-19 as a mark of respect to the departed souls due to that tragedy on June 4, 2025."
