Jazz City OTT Release: When And Where To Watch Bangladesh Liberation War Series Online

Jazz City is SonyLIV’s upcoming historical drama set during the Bangladesh Liberation War. Blending a tense thriller narrative with powerful action, the series explores the complex socio-political atmosphere of the time. Created by Soumik Sen, Jazz City promises a gripping political drama that takes viewers back to the 1971 conflict, a period that deeply impacted relations between Pakistan and India.

The series brings together a strong mix of Tollywood and Bollywood talent, with Arifin Shuvoo leading the cast as Jimmy alongside lead actress Sauraseni Maitra. The ensemble also includes Shataf Figar, Arpita Chatterjee, Shantanu Ghatak, Aniruddha Gupta, Sayandeep Sengupta, Shreya Bhattacharya, Alexandra Taylor, and Amit Saha. At the core of the project is creator, director, and writer Soumik Sen, best known for his acclaimed series Jubilee.

The video opens with a chilling scene where a Pakistani soldier forces a badly injured Bengali man to choose between being Muslim or Bengali, only to shoot him after he answers “both,” setting a grim tone. Set against jazz music and verses of Rabindranath Tagore used as symbols of resistance, the teaser shows a famous jazz club in Kolkata turning into a secret centre for revolutionary activity during the 1971 Liberation War. It also briefly references the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Pulwama, and Pathankot to underline Pakistan’s long history of conflict with India and hint at the consequences had East Pakistan remained under its control.

The upcoming Bengali original series Jazz City is set to premiere on OTT on February 6, 2026. The show will stream exclusively on Sony LIV, marking the platform’s first major Bengali original series. To reach a wider audience, Jazz City will be available in Bengali, Hindi, and English.

Set in 1971, the series revolves around a jazz music club in Kolkata (then Calcutta) and brings to light untold stories of resistance during the Bangladesh Liberation War. It explores India’s role in supporting Bangladesh’s struggle for independence against Pakistan, making the fight for liberation the heart of Jazz City. Jazz music runs through the narrative as a powerful metaphor for revolution, identity, and suppressed emotions, almost becoming a character itself that shapes the mood and emotional depth of the story.
