She Said Maybe OTT Release: Streaming on Netflix from September 19

“She Said Maybe,” a German-Turkish romantic comedy, will be available for streaming on Netflix starting September 19, 2025. This Netflix Original presents an international love story, bringing together German and Turkish settings and themes, right to global audiences via the streaming platform. 

The story follows Mavi, who was raised in Hamburg, Germany in a simple life. But everything changes when she learns she descends from a wealthy Turkish dynasty. What begins as a dream proposal in Istanbul by her boyfriend Can takes a twist, as Mavi’s two worlds collide—with identity, family expectations, and cultural contrasts forcing her to choose between who she thought she was and who she might become. 

Beritan Balcı plays Mavi with sensitivity—she conveys both the innocence of someone unaware of her lineage, and the weight of sudden belonging. Serkan Çayoğlu (as Can) offers warmth and integrity in his role, while actors Meral Perin, Katja Riemann, and others round off the ensemble, adding depth and texture to the family dynamics and cultural clash.

Visually, the film promises striking contrast between Hamburg’s understated, calm landscape and Istanbul’s vibrant, ornate world—both cinematography and setting are used to reflect Mavi’s internal journey. The storytelling is co-directed by Buket Alakuş and Ngo The Chau, with a screenplay by İpek Zübert, which helps in balancing the emotional comedy and the dramatic tension of heritage, identity, and relationship expectations. The shift between locations (Hamburg, Istanbul) also allows the technical team to explore cross-cultural aesthetics and production design.
