Mohan is an Indian actor known for his work predominantly in Tamil cinema, as well as in some Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam films. He gained the nickname "Kokila Mohan" after his debut film Kokila (1977) and "Mic Mohan" from numerous roles where he played singers using microphones. In 1982, he received the Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actor for his performance in Payanangal Mudivathillai. Career After his debut in Kokila, Mohan starred in the Malayalam movie Madalasa (1978). Following the success of this film, he signed on for the Telugu film Thoorpu Velle Railu (1979), directed by Bapu, which was a remake of the Tamil film Kizhakke Pogum Rail. In 1980, he featured in Moodu Pani as Bhaskar, a film based on psychology, which performed very well at the Tamil box office. This success earned him the status of a Silver Jubilee Star, and he was recognized as the Rajendra Kumar of Tamil cinema during the 1980s. Mohan was introduced to Tamil cinema audiences through the film Nenjathai Killathe (1980), directed by Mahendran. The film ran for a year and won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil. Following this, many of his films enjoyed extended runs, often surpassing 200 days in theaters. He solidified his star status with Payanangal Mudivathillai (1982), for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor – Tamil. One of his most acclaimed performances came in the Tamil romantic drama film Mouna Ragam (1986), directed by Mani Ratnam. Despite his efforts to stage a comeback by producing, directing, and starring in the film Anbulla Kadhalukku (1999), it was not successful at the box office. When not acting, Mohan produces television serials such as Acham Madam Nanam, Selvangal, Hasiyaramayana, and Brindavanam. Mohan declined the role of Jayam Ravi's father in Unakkum Enakkum (2006), which was later played by K. Bhagyaraj. He returned to the screen after a nine-year hiatus with the film Sutta Pazham (2008), a low-budget film that turned a profit for its producer and distributors. Mohan's production company, Civic Cinema, produced Thalappavu (2008), starring Prithviraj and Lal, which was the directorial debut of popular actor Madhupal. In 2024, Mohan returned to the silver screen with the movie Haraa. He also signed on for a role in Thalapathy Vijay's highly anticipated movie G.O.A.T - The Greatest of All Time.
