Kota Srinivasa Rao was one of the most respected and versatile actors in Telugu cinema, known for his commanding screen presence, powerful dialogue delivery, and effortless transition between villainous, comedic, and character roles. Born on July 10, 1942, in Kankipadu, Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, he initially worked as a bank employee before stepping into theatre and eventually into films. He made his film debut with Pranam Khareedu (1978) and went on to act in over 750 films across Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam languages. Known for memorable performances in films like Aha Naa Pellanta, Gaayam, Pratighatana, MLA Yedukondalu, and Tagore, Kota was celebrated for adding depth and nuance to every role he portrayed. He received several accolades during his career, including the Padma Shri in 2015 and multiple Nandi Awards. Apart from films, Kota was also active in politics for a brief period and served as an MLA representing the BJP in Andhra Pradesh. He was known for voicing his opinions on cinema and society with honesty and clarity, earning both admiration and criticism. Sadly, Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away on July 13, 2025 , due to age-related health complications. His death marked the end of an era in Telugu cinema, and he is remembered as one of the finest character actors the industry has ever seen.
